Self-care comes in all different forms. From exercising daily, to meditating, to finding beauty regimes that work best for you, all that matters is finding the time to do something that brings you a sense of self-love. As we spend more time at home during the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s important to find ways to unwind, relax, and take care of ourselves through meaningful self-care.
Here at Oh My Garden!, our self-care often starts with our beauty routines. We are BIG fans of skincare around here. However, we are also big advocates for the importance of maintaining healthy and beautiful hair. For all of our hair fanatics out there, or anyone who is looking for quick and simple ways to give their hair some love, look no further!
We’ve put together our top three easy ways to nourish your hair, all while enjoying some peaceful self-love time.
1. Give yourself a scalp massage
The best part about going to see your hairstylist is always the glorious scalp massage, right? While you’re at home, give yourself (and your scalp) some TLC with a deeply relaxing massage. Using either your fingers or an eco-friendly scalp massaging brush, gently massage in circular motions over your scalp, temples, and base of your neck. For additional haircare, combine tip #1 and incorporate coconut oil into your scalp massage.
In addition to relieving stress, massaging your scalp will help stimulate blood circulation around your hair follicles, resulting in healthier hair when performed regularly.
2. Apply a Natural, Homemade Hair Mask
From stress, pollution, and heat-styling products, your hair can become dry and dehydrated overtime. Applying a homemade hair mask that is rich in protein will help to nourish and hydrate your hair, providing you with a revamped look and feel. There’s a variety of natural masks to choose from, but one of our favourites is a natural coconut oil mask.
The coconut oil will work to replenish moisture and reduce protein loss, giving you shinier and healthier-looking hair. By choosing to use a natural product, you are reducing any additional waste entering the landfills, making this a great eco-friendly option for rejuvenating your hair.
You can find a step-by-step guide, as well as a few recipe variations, here.
3. Use the right shampoo and conditioner
Many shampoos and conditions are often filled with harsh chemicals that can be rough on your hair and the environment. Using the wrong shampoo and conditioner can strip away essential oils on the hair, resulting in damaged, dry, and weakened hair. For people with coloured hair, using harsh shampoos and conditioners can also strip away your colour. To ensure you are using the right shampoo and condition, look for products that use natural ingredients, and contain the right nutrients to strengthen your hair.
You said using the wrong shampoo and conditioner can result in damaged hair. Does Oh My Garden! make hair products that will help keep my hair healthy and strong?
