When my bars arrived in the mail, the first thing I noticed was the packing. The boxes were perfectly proportionate to the bars, so I knew there were no wasted materials involved in the packaging process. There’s also no fancy bells and whistles, just simple, recyclable materials with an easy-to-open sticker that keeps the product sealed. I also loved the little message printed on the inside: “Thank you for your waste-free choice! By choosing the Oh My Garden! Solid Conditioner Bar, you are reducing the use of at least five plastic bottles going in the landfills.”
The same message was written for the shampoo bar.
I wanted to talk about storage right after packing because I ended up using the original box as my storage compartment for the products. The bars surprisingly didn’t hold onto a ton of water after I finished using them on my hair. Once they were completely dry, I placed them back in their original boxes and stored them neatly in a cabinet in my bathroom. This was a huge bonus for me because I always find there is way too much product clutter in my shower. It was nice to be able to store them away neatly without any mess. They’re also small and aren’t an irregular shape, so they can be tucked away in almost any storage space.
I was really impressed with the scent of the bars. The best way to describe them is fresh, natural and clean. They give off such a light aroma so it didn’t feel overbearing while I was washing/conditioning, while simultaneously leaving a great fresh scent on my hair.
I know that all of Oh My Garden!’s products are made with natural, ethical ingredients, so I wasn’t surprised to discover the same is true with the shampoo and conditioner bars. I was thrilled to read that they are made from great ingredients that I can actually pronounce, such as tea tree and lemon protein, coconut oil, Vitamin E, mango butter and more. No crazy scary chemical names!
My hair type
I have naturally very fine hair, so I’m always a little bit nervous when I try new conditioners as I fear it may end up causing my hair to look greasy. I also dye my hair blonde, so I need to find products that won’t cause dryness and damage all while preserving the integrity of my colour. I was thrilled to discover the bars are safe on colour-treated hair, and because of their natural blend of ingredients, they worked to nourish my hair instead of causing dryness or damage. It was also a big relief when I rinsed out the conditioner and discovered no greasy residue!
How to use
At first, I wasn’t entirely sure how solid shampoo and conditioner works. Thankfully, the process ended up being way easier than I imagined and required much less product than the traditional liquid shampoo and conditioners I was used to.
Since shampoo and conditioner bars might be a bit of a foreign concept for a lot of beauty lovers out there (I know it was for me) I put together a quick tutorial on how to properly use them. Check it out:
